How many of Catalonia’s 947 municipalities could you name from memory? The game that turned geography into a viral phenomenon.
Context
It all started with a simple question: how many municipalities of Catalonia could you write down from memory? From Girona to Gandesa, from la Pobla de Segur to el Prat de Llobregat — there are 947 of them, and almost nobody knows how far their memory reaches.
Product
The main challenge is a time trial: you type municipalities and they light up on the map as you get them right, with a leaderboard to compare yourself with the rest of the country. And every day, a new puzzle: guess a municipality from its silhouette alone, with six tries and a clue for every miss.
Results
In fifteen days it had already racked up 25,000 games; today it is past 120,000. The phenomenon jumped from social feeds to the media — 3CatInfo covered it as “the geography challenge gone viral” — and the web game grew into an iPhone app.
Beyond the game, els947 points at a bigger idea: a travel passport for Catalonia, to discover, log and share the places you have visited.
